Dear REFORMA Colleagues:
It is my pleasure to serve as your new President. The theme of my Presidency is REFORMA: Building Community. My main goal is to strengthen REFORMA’s position as an advocacy leader to ensure equitable access to library services by all members of our society and to their fundamental rights to know.
Together we will take our organization through a new era of changes to maximize efforts to better serve Latinos and the Spanish speaking. Some of the topics included in my plan are:
-Using social software for advocacy
-Understanding the importance of developing Spanish collections, programs and services for the Latino and the Spanish speaking (including homeless, persons with disabilities and GLBT)
-Successfully dealing with challenged books
-Communicating with elected officials, library decision-makers, library workers and community
-Recruiting Latinos and promoting librarianship More details of my initial plan were published on the latest issue of the REFORMA Newsletter (Volume 27, Number 1/2). Stay tuned for more announcements. I will share news via our website, listserv, Twitter, Facebook, and my own blog
http://loidagarciafebo.com/As I start my Presidency I will be appointing members to various committees. I hope to complete the appointments and announce them very soon. If you are interested in working with a committee, contact me.
I am very excited to work with dedicated professionals to continue promoting library and information services to Latinos and the Spanish-speaking.
My very best,
Loida
